San Francisco Resources

Like any big city, San Francisco has a plethora of websites, blogs, and resources to help our visitors (including this here blog!).

While I know this here logue is your first-stop-shop, here are some of the sites I, and many locals, check out when they need information. There are lots more; these are my favorites.

  • Craigslist - Need a ride? A short term apartment rental? A roommate? A date? The San Francisco Craigslist is the granddaddy of them all. You can find everything you need (and lots that you don’t) on the site. Most locals use this as their first stop when they need something, or when a cutie passes them on the bus and they want to know his or her name.
  • Yelp - Another site born here in San Francisco, Yelp is a review site written by real people. If you are looking for a restaurant, or bar, or fun place to go, Yelp will help you out. Venture carefully into their Talk section; regulars can be a little vicious when newcomers forget to use the search function.
  • SF Station - SF Station is a small site full of information. Festivals, movies, family events are all listed here.
  • SF Bay Guardian - San Francisco’s most popular alternative magazine, either check out their site or pick up a copy when you arrive in town. You can get a beat on local issues, concerts big and small, movie openings, new places to eat, and some of the best personal ads in SF.
  • SF Gate - SF Gate is the website for the San Francisco Chronicle. A great source for local news, events, and special reports on everything from wine to San Francisco’s new garbage can ordinance.
  • SFist.com - A snarky look at the local scene, updated several times throughout the day to include breaking news (often things that don’t make SFGate, like “what was that noise on Van Ness” or “Could you find the Olympic torch?”)

Again, this isn’t a comprehensive list, but instead the ones I find the most helpful. Got more? Let me know via the comments section!
