This weekend is the Union Street Festival, which kicks off San Francisco’s Summer Festival Season. Held in the Cow Hollow District, the festival is a true celebration of this neighborhood and its residents.
Like so much in San Francisco, this year, the festival is going green. There will be an organic Farmer’s Market at the entrance, and throughout the festival, there will be a focus on vendors with arts & crafts made from sustainable materials and other eco-friendly exhibits. There are also live music acts, lots of food vendors, and, of course, beer gardens.
The neighborhood truly gets into the spirit of this festival. Many residents have roof parties; look up and you’ll see San Franciscans hanging out and watching the happenings down at street level. If you get invited, head upstairs to a roof and check out the stunning views Cow Hollow offers.
The Festivals in San Francisco each have a distinctly neighborhood feel. If you get the chance, check a few out!
I encourage you to take public transportation, as parking is a nightmare. To get to Union Street Festival from downtown or North Beach, hop on the 45 Union/Stockton. It will take you right to Union Street (though, due to the street closures, you may have to walk a block or two). You can also take any Van Ness bus (going in the direction of the water), and get off on the Union Street exit.
