Summer in the National Parks

I love summer. You can pack your backpack, the camping gear and head to one of the superb US national parks. The only problem is that…millions others will do just like you. And that’s how you’ll end up, most likely, planning your summer vacation in one of the busiest national parks in the US .

Yosemite is one of them. It’s definitely one of the most popular national parks. During summer this Californian park is filled with tourists. Sure, the cheapest option is to stay in a tent but if you are looking for cheap hotels in Yosemite , you can choose something without too many facilities. Do book in advance though. As I’ve said before, plenty other nature lovers will rush to get here at about same time you do.

Avoid the park in August, at all costs! Really. That’s the busiest time of the year and it won’t be the nature experience you are looking for. If you want to get rid of the crowds explore the lesser-known areas of the park. Invest in some camping and hiking equipment – you can take advantage of the REI anniversary sale – and head to places such as Tuolomne Meadows, or hike to Taft Point.

Summer is an excellent time to visit the US national parks but many of them can be easily tackled during the low season, as well. Actually, Yosemite can get pretty crowded even during spring or fall. The trick to escape the crowds is to explore areas where others won’t venture (especially if the hike is a bit harder) or to stay over night.
