Free Weekend in San Francisco

Summer’s here, and there with it comes a ton of free activities ideal for the budget traveler!

From free music to free ice cream, we’ve got it all this weekend

  • Opera in the Park, Friday June 20th– The San Francisco Opera will be simulcasting their latest production, Lucia di Lammermoor, live at AT & T Park. You can register in advance and reserve tickets, or, they will be opening the gates at 7pm for walk up attendees. You’ll want to enter through the Willie Mays Gate. To get to AT & T Park via public transportation from downtown, take the N or T Muni Metro trains.
  • Crushpad Winetasting, Saturday June 21 – It is the 5th anniversary of this winemaking venture, and they have opened up their doors and invited the public in to celebrate. From 2 to 6pm, stop by and taste wines, meet winemakers, and learn about how Crushpad enables hobbyist winemakers fulfill their dreams. Crushpad is located at 2573 3rd Street. Use 511.org to map out your public transportation options.
  • Ghiradelli Savour the Square, Saturday & Sunday June 21-22 – The highlight of this event is the free Ghiradelli Sundaes from 4-5pm both days, but head on over and check out the newly redone Square. From wine tasting to doggie fashion shows, it is a worthwhile stop on your visit to Fisherman’s Wharf. You can get to Ghiradelli Square on the Hyde Cable Car Line, or check 511.org for other options.
  • Alice’s Summerthing, Sunday June 22 – Local radio station Alice 97.3FM puts on an annual, free music show in Golden Gate Park. The headliners this year include Lifehouse and Ingrid Michaelson, and there are also a few other bands. The stage is set at Speedway Meadows. To get there via public transit, hop on the 5 Fulton Muni Line to the 25th Avenue exit.
